The heat broke Thursday evening with an entertaining storm that flashed lightning, broke trees and blew down utility wires. People watched from under cover at area office buildings and at Calf Pasture Beach, which Common Council President Rick McQuaid said is always a good place to watch the weather.
Norwalk police scanner traffic indicated a number of trees were damaged, and officers were dispatched to check on downed wires. One officer was concerned by a wire on Chestnut Street because it came from a SNEW pole and he thought it might be a power line.
The Weather Channel estimated that just less than an inch of rain fell. The high temperature Friday is expected to be 81 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of rain.
