WESTPORT, Conn. Westport resident Michael Mitchell was arrested Monday night on a breach of peach charge after police received a report of an intoxicated man on a bench outside the library, police said.
As officers arrived, they found Mitchell, of 5 Canal Park, staggering down the stairs. When one officer tried to help Mitchell, he pushed the officer and began yelling obscenities at them, police said.
Mitchell, 54, reportedly smelled of alcohol and became increasing belligerent, waving his arms as he continued to yell at the officers. When asked to keep still for his own safety, Mitchell did not comply, police said.
In addition to breach of peace, Mitchell was charged with interfering with an officer. He was held on $1,000 bond and arraigned in Norwalk Superior Court the next morning.
