WESTPORT, Conn. Overseeing the education of Westports public school students is no longer Superintendent Elliott Landon's only task.
As a recently appointed member of a state education task force, hell help influence programs for English-language learners all across Connecticut, the district announced Monday.
Before Landon came to work in Westport in 1999, he was honored by Circulo de La Hispanidad of Long Beach, N.Y., for his work with bilingual and dual-language programs. Specifically, he helped develop and implement a dual-language program for Spanish-speaking students in grades K-12, which resulted in higher graduation rates, according to the statement.
The program was recognized as one of the premier dual-language programs in New York by the New York Department of Education.
Due to his experience with bilingual programs, Landon was appointed to the state education task force, which was formed by Christopher Donovan, speaker of the state House of Representatives. The task force will focus on improving and strengthening programs statewide for students who are English-language learners.
