UPDATED 12/27/10, 1:30 p.m.: Westport DPW director Steve Edwards reported Monday that all plowing crews were out and trying to get all roads cleared. He was hoping the weather would cooperate.
If the wind would stop it would help, but its still blowing, Edwards said.
As of noon, all town roads were open, but Edwards urged drivers to be careful and watch out for plow trucks.
The National Weather Service canceled the blizzard warning for Fairfield County and issued a winter weather advisory in its place. Under this advisory, which is in effect until midnight, wind gusts as high as 50 mph are expected. These strong winds will cause areas of blowing and snow drifting, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions. The Weather Service is advising people to be prepared for slippery road conditions and limited visibility at times.
The Westport Public Library is closed for the day and will reopen Tuesday at 9 a.m. All activities at the Senior Center have also been canceled, including home-delivered meal services.
As of 1:30 p.m., Connecticut Light & Power reported 98 customers were without power in Westport.
