WESTPORT, Conn. A new middle school social studies curriculum aimed at making students more globally minded will be rolled out in Westport's sixth-grade classrooms beginning next year.
On Tuesday night, the Board of Education unanimously approved the Global Citizen curriculum. This new curriculum will broaden students understanding of the world, not just the United States, and better prepare them to be globally competent citizens, said James D'Amico, social studies department chairman for grades 6-12.
The Global Citizen curriculum was developed over two years by a team of teachers from Bedford and Coleytown middle schools. The plan is to implement the curriculum in the 2012-13 school year for sixth-graders, the 2013-14 school year for seventh-graders and the 2014-15 school year for eighth-graders.
