WESTPORT, Conn. A fire that erupted Monday morning in the kitchen of a home on Darbrook Road in Westport while the home owners were out was extinguished before it could spread to the rest of the home, fire officials reported.
At approximately 8:51 a.m., firefighters received a report that a fire alarm at the home had been activated. When firefighters arrived to investigate, smoke could be seen coming from the rear of the home, prompting more fire units to be called, Assistant Chief John Plofkin Jr. said in a news releases.
When firefighters entered the home, they found the dishwasher, adjacent cabinets and a portion of the kitchen floor on fire, Plofkin said. A hose line and a pressurized water extinguisher were used to put out the flames, Plofkin said.
Four family pets were found and moved to safety when firefighters checked the rest of the home, Plofkin said. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire was being investigated by the fire marshals office.
