Weston Walks on the Wild Side

Dayna Harris of Weston takes her dogs, Indigo and Kayce, to Trout Brook Valley three days per week to "get away from the daily grind."

Indigo and Kayce enjoy running around the woods in Weston on a trail where dogs are allowed to be off their leashes. In 1999, Weston purchased its 45 acres of Trout Brook Valley's 730 acres, which include 12 trails ranging from easy to hard.

For people wanting to get a closer look at the Trout Brook Valley, backwoods expert Joe Haines will lead a natural history hike on Sunday, April 17. Haines is the subject of local Easton writer James Prosek's book, "Joe and Me: An Education in Fishing and Friendship," and was a warden for 40 years with the Bridgeport Water Co. The hike will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

JR Janda and Andy Tremaglio of Fairfield were hiking at Trout Brook Valley on Friday in an attempt to rediscover a trail they hadn't visited in a while. The two said they like the trail's mix of terrain, which includes stone and dirt trails, wetlands, steep slopes and flat walks.

The entrance to Trout Brook Valley is at the end of Bradley Road in Weston. The entire Trout Brook Valley, Crow Hill and Jump Hill Conservation Areas contains 1,009 acres in Westport, Fairfield, Easton and Weston. Aspetuck Land Trust manages all 1,009 acres of the preserve.
