Without going through the "legal finality," justice is not done in the killing of Osama bin Laden, said Bill Alderson of Weston. "The fact is, there was no legal proceeding, and that bothers me."
Alderson said he wouldn't have had a problem with the process had bin Laden been captured and there had been a trial and then execution. Without knowing what happened when he was killed, Alderson said he can't know whether that would have been possible.
A bench in front of Weston's Town Hall is dedicated to the memory of six people who died on 9/11. Purple flowers had been placed on the bench Monday.
"I hope we bring the troops home sooner rather than later and get our men and women out of harm's way," Weston First Selectman Gayle Weinstein said. Her husband was in New York City on 9/11 and watched the towers come down from his midtown office.
"That day was incredibly stressful for my family as I'm sure it was for most families in Weston," said Weinstein, who was at a PTO meeting at Hurlbutt Elementary School when she found out about the attacks. "I still very clearly remember that day in my mind."
