Westhills boys tennis team has never won a State Open doubles championship, according to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Association's website. John Petrini and Brandon Pomerance can change that on Tuesday.
The Westhill pair won two matches Sunday to advance to Tuesdays State Open final. They meet Fairfield Ludlowes Daniel Adajian and Reid Andren in the final at Hamden High School at 3:30 p.m.
Petrini and Pomerance defeated New Canaans William Burger and Thomas Worcester, 6-0, 0-6, 6-3 in Sundays semifinals. The Westhill pair opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Andrew DeAntonis and Jack Rothman of Old Saybrook.
According to CIAC records, Stamford Catholics Greg Weiss and Marc DAgostini won a doubles title in 1988. They are the last players from Stamford to win a doubles title. Stamford High School has never won a doubles title.
Petrini and Pomerance won the Class LL doubles title last week, beating Staples Jake Hirschberg and Graham Hyman in the final, 7-5, 6-0.
