The Westhill High School girls' soccer team will get its shot to repeat as Class LL state champions Friday night. The 10th-ranked Vikings will take on fourth-seeded Shelton at Norwalk High School at 7 p.m.
Goalkeeper Jen Osher and the Westill defense have been the driving force in the postseason, and have yet to allow a goal in the state tournament. The Westhill girls have exploded onto the scene as a rising power in the state. Their 2009 championship was their first-ever appearance in the state finals, and some considered the victory a fluke.
"Last year everyone said it was luck, and I think we've proven it wasn't luck," Westhill forward Tessa Dunster said after Wednesday's semifinal victory over Hamden. "We're coming back and we're going to do it again."
The team's only blemish in the postseason was a 1-0 overtime loss in the FCIAC finals to Greenwich.
