American Legion Riders Post 174 set up donation boxes at their Mountain View Boulevard building with live music and free food Friday through Sunday night.

"We're going all out on this one, we're making it big," member Al Vest told Daily Voice.

As of Saturday afternoon the post had filled about half of a trailer with toys. Legion Commander John Swank said they spread the word all over Facebook and received plenty of support.

Toys for Tots is run by the U.S. Marine Corps and distributes toys to underprivileged children.

"It's what the American Legion does," Swank said. "We help kids, we help veterans, we help the homeless. That's what we're here for."

The post is collecting new unwrapped toys or a $10 donation and will keep its doors open until 11 p.m. Saturday. It will also be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

The toy drive is the latest of many volunteer efforts for the Wayne post.

"This is a great crew here," said Eileen McMahon as she dropped off toys Saturday. "They're doing great things. Week by week there's always something community-oriented."
