The site will allow teachers and faculty at all Wallington schools to share new information and resources with students and family, Wallington Board of Education Technology Coordinator Vito D'Amelio said.
"We are now able to give out sections of the website to different departments at each school so they can be responsible for updating the information on them," D'Amelio said.
"Our guidance department can edit the guidance section, our athletics department the athletics section and so on."
D'Amelio also said every teacher will have a personal "corner" to keep a class calendar with dates for tests and assignments. Teackers will also be able to upload URLs, study guides and class notes.
Other features include a portal where students and teachers can submit articles and photos to be posted on the website, and a translator that will allow the site to be read in different languages.
"We are pretty happy with how the site turned out. It has everything that we wanted," D'Amelio said, noting that the district paid education company Schoolwires "less than $10,000" for the redesign.
The district could add new features, such as the ability for parents and students to register on the site to gain access to protected materials like report cards and attendance records, D'Amelio said.
D'Amelio also says the district would like to integrate real-time notifications for emergencies and school closings.
"The students and parents will benefit big with access to all these materials," D'Amelio said. "There is a of potential here."
