The future cant get much brighter for the Wilton Y Wahoos. Members of the swim team continue to rack up accolades in a dream summer that has already seen a National Long Course championship, and which has broken records at team, state and national levels. The latest Wahoos to make waves are KC Moss, Christian Higgins and Stephen Holmquist.
Moss, 15, finished an impressive fourth in the women's 200-meter breaststroke event at the 2010 Junior National Championships in Irvine, Cal. Clocking in at 2:31.39, Moss was the youngest swimmer in the final, competing against swimmers two and three years older than her. But the best is yet to come this week for Moss career: She will participate in her strongest event, the 100-meter breaststroke, on Thursday.
Higgins was the latest Wahoo to enter the record books setting a new meet record for the Junior Championships in the men's 200-meter breaststroke. Higgins shaved .28 seconds off the meet record time in preliminaries, but had to settle for fourth in the finals. Holmquist, 13, turned in a standout performance by winning the 13-14 High Point Distance Swim at the CT Age Group Swimming Championships, at Wesleyan University. Holmquist buried the previous Wahoos team record for the 800-meter freestyle in the 13-14 age-group, with a time of 9:08.66. His result bested the old record by more than eight seconds.
