Friendly Connections serves area seniors, such as Stamford resident Antoinette Palmieri, with programs that help ensure their well-being. It does this by matching seniors with community volunteers who regularly check on their senior pals, help fulfill basic needs and make sure theyre not isolated. Pictured here with Palmieri is volunteer Elizabeth Costa of New Canaan. Friendly Connections, a division of the nonprofit Family Centers, offers this service to seniors free of charge. It will hold an open house for new volunteers Monday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 20 Bridge St., Greenwich. Opportunities for volunteers include making check-in calls to local seniors, being a facilitator for informational and entertaining teleconference groups, visiting homebound older adults and administrative work. To register for the volunteer open house, contact Rebecca Lippel at (203) 661-8841.
