Fairfield Warde High doesnt just assign summer reading, they turn it into an "Extravaganza". The school is looking for volunteers for its Sixth Annual Book Chat Extravaganza on September 8. Any member of the community parents, local leaders, senior citizens- can participate. The only requirement is a passion for reading and an interest in talking about books with teens. The goal of the program is to show high school students that the love of reading extends far beyond the classroom and to encourage teens to become lifelong readers.
Before school ends, if you volunteer, you'll choose a book from a specified list to read over the summer. In September, you are matched with teens who chose the same book. Youll be given some guidelines about the chat, and also provided with snacks and prizes for the most active participants. Want to pass on your love of reading? Email Mick McGarry at [email protected] by May 21 to participate.
