Bobby Valentine has made no secret of his desire to return to managing in the Major Leagues, and he could be back on the bench soon. Multiple reports indicate the Stamford native will meet with the Florida Marlins Friday night to interview for their managerial vacancy.
The Marlins fired manager Fredi Gonzalez on Wednesday. Valentine, now an analyst at ESPN, previously managed the Mets and the Texas Rangers. He also served two stints as the manager of the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan.
The Marlins are expected to offer Valentine a four-year contract. Valentine is also scheduled to ride a bike for a team Sunday in the KIC It Triathlon in Stamford. The race ends just steps away from his downtown restaurant.
Valentine owns a career record of 1,117-1,072 in the majors. He directed the Mets to their last World Series appearance in 2000.
