Citing the Uxbridge Police Department, WPRI identifies the officer killed on Route 146 at approximately 12:40 a.m., as 43-year-old Stephen Laporta. Counseling is being made available to the Uxbridge Police Department.

LaPorta was hired in 2024 after working as a dispatcher, Uxbridge PD said.

Condolences poured in for LaPorta on social media.

Josh Murdock remembered him as "one of the hardest working, smartest and most dedicated dispatchers I ever worked with. He taught me so much but the biggest thing he taught me was how to enjoy and have fun with what ever you were doing. Even on our busiest nights and days he always smiled and always had fun."

Juliane Dykiel said: "Devastating loss- RIP Officer Laporta. He was so helpful to us last year and I’ll always remember that. Please be careful driving out there."
