We don't need to tell you it's getting hot out there. The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory until 7 p.m. Tuesday for Fairfield County. Temperatures will be between 95 and 100 degrees, and the heat index is expected to reach as high as 104. So, this afternoon the town named the New Canaan Library its official cooling center until closing.
The Library is air-conditioned, and open to the public until 8 p.m. And if you're worried about entertainment, starting at 7 p.m. they'll be showing a movie, "The Nuremberg Trials," as part of their summer reading series.
If your still looking for other options, and if you have a pass to the Waveny Pool, you will be able to swim there until 7 p.m. And you could always catch an afternoon show at the New Canaan Playhouse, or grab some ice cream at Baskin-Robbins or Gelatissimo.
Health Director Richard Werner offered some advice to residents. He recommends loose-fitting, lightly colored clothing, preferably cotton, "because it breathes better." He also suggests suntan lotion (at least SPF 30) and hats for people who decide to venture out, and to limit activity between 1 and 3 p.m., when conditions will be at their worst. But the No. 1 rule is to drink plenty of water, while avoiding caffeine or alcohol. "The major concern is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate," Werner said.
