Staples' Raphael Ray and Ingrid Johnson won the 600 meter races last weekend at the Hartford Public High School Rimigino Invitational at Wesleyan University. Staples' girls finished second in the 26-team field while the boys were fifth out of 31 teams.
Ray won in 1:25.22, over two seconds ahead of runner-up Lester Dublin of Bulkeley. Johnson won in 1:41.26, beating Weaver's Meadeshia Mitchell by more than a second.
Other top performances for the boys included a third place by Sean Gallagher in the 300, a fourth place in the 300 by Jon Heil, a fifth in the 1,600 by Henry Wyne, and a fifth in the pole vault by Dean Hefnaway.
For the girls, Kelley Hussey took second in the 55 meter, Lexie Schachne took second in the high jujp and pole vault, and Megan Lipset took fifth in the pole vault. The girls 4 x 400 relay took third, and the 4 x 800 relay also grabbed third.
