A motorist told police a white Ford van struck their vehicle and drove away, Detective Lt. Tom Michael said.
Police dispatchers contacted police on patrol and reported the suspected vehicle was nearby and stuck in mud, police said.
When police located the van, they said they found damage consistent with evading the accident. The driver, David Hill of Kingswood Road, gave off an odor of alcohol, and had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, Michael said.
Hill failed standard field sobriety tests, was arrested and found at fault for the accident, according to police. He was charged with operating under the influence and failure to maintain proper lane, police said. Hill is being held on a $2,500 bond, Michael said.
Police also arrested another Danbury man Sunday in connection with an unrelated drunken-driving incident, police said.
A police officer saw Eduardo Suarez, of Pahquioque Avenue, driving a car with no headlights on and swerving into the opposite lane, Michael said.
When the officer stopped Suarez, he noticed a strong odor of alcohol, and Suarez admitted he'd had two beers, police said. Suarez failed standard field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence, failure to have headlights lit, and no license. He was held on a $2,500 bond, Michael said.
