Two Charged in Stamford Stabbing Incident

STAMFORD, Conn. — Two Stamford men were arrested after they allegedly stabbed each other during a fight at their Hazel Street apartment, Sgt. Rob Barbagallo said.

The two were drinking early in the morning on Sunday and began arguing about employment issues, according to a witness, and when he tried to break it up Saturnino Vasquez-Ramos, 32, slashed Elder Lopes, 32, with a kitchen knife, Barbagallo said. Lopes then picked up a kitchen knife and slashed Vasquez-Ramos, the witness said.

After being stabbed, Vasquez-Ramos ran into his room, and Lopes stabbed the knife into the door, breaking the handle, the sergeant said. When police arrived, both men were taken to the hospital and treated for their injuries, Barbagallo said.

Officers on scene found a pool of blood near the kitchen, and several knives were collected as evidence, he said.

Both men were charged with first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon, police said. Lopes’ bond was set at $50,000, Vasquez-Ramos’ at $10,000, Barbagallo said.
