HARRISON, N.Y. Nice weather not only means longer days but carnivals galore in Harrison. Both St. Gregory the Great and St. Anthony of Padua churches will host their celebrations in the coming weeks.
The Harrison Town Board recently approved hosting both carnivals, and the parishes are busy getting ready for their celebrations. St. Gregorys will hold its carnival for preschool children and their families on Saturday, May 19, on the school grounds at 94 Broadway. St. Gregorys Director Maria Gaudelli said in a letter to the Town Board that the carnival would feature arts and crafts, homemade games of skill, an auction, food and an inflatable castle.
Two weeks later, St. Anthonys will hold its 43rd annual Festa on the church grounds at 85 Harrison St. in West Harrison. The Festa will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 1, and run until midnight. It will reopen at 5 p.m. June 2 and conclude on June 3 with a procession around 2:30 p.m.
The most important aspect of our Festa is our community, said the Rev. Christopher Monturo of St. Anthonys. All of the food is homemade, which is one of the greatest attractions of it to people. Most importantly, we will get to spend time honoring our patron saint.
