Trinity Takes City Championship

Despite a losing record (2-6) and no chance of postseason play, Trinity Catholic put it all together Saturday and claimed the city title, beating crosstown rival Stamford High School, 42-28. Senior running back Mike Rivas rushed for 230 yards and scored three touchdowns on Senior Day at Trinity's home field.

The Crusaders put up 342 total yards against a tough Black Knight defense.

Having conquered Stamford's Westhill High School on Oct. 2, Trinity claims its first city title in five years.

"Our seniors have been focusing on this game with Stamford for weeks," exclaimed a jubilant interim head coach Joe Claps.

Stamford's junior starting quarterback, Bryan Boderick, led the Black Knights with 271 yards passing and three touchdowns. Stamford goes to 5-4 and plays Westhill on Thanksgiving eve.

A highlight of the day was a pre-game salute to legendary Trinity coach Bob Lynch, who started the football program at the school in 1960. He was given a check for $15,000 from Trinity Catholic friends and alumni to be used in the school's athletic programs.
