The Hackensack Fire Department urged the public to avoid Prospect Avenue and Berry Street as crews responded.
Firefighters remained on scene waiting for PSEG to shut off electricity before crews could safely extinguish the fire, according to the department.
No injuries or additional information were immediately reported.
