NJ Transit spokesman John Chartier said that six NJ Transit crew members were treated and released from area hospitals. He previously said that 17 people total were injured with non-life-threatening injuries following the crash west of Bay Street at approximately 6:45 p.m.
NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri and senior staff were on scene as of 9:30 p.m., with National Transportation Safety Board set to arrive on scene to conduct an investigation, rail officials said.
"Our primary focus during this incident is the safety of our passengers, our employees and our first responders," Chartier said.
Rail service to the Montclair-Boonton line was suspended, with rail tickets and passes were being cross-honored on NJ Transit buses.
