Many young people dream about going to Hollywood and starring in movies. But Stephanie Kaminsky, Tori Muniz and Halli Stewart were among 20 Wilton kids who had Hollywood come to them. "I Hate Tom Petty" was being shot at the Trackside Teen Center on Friday, and the filmmakers, IHTP Productions, asked for local teens to be extras.
"Just by being in a movie it's a dream come true," Stephanie said. The three friends act at Wilton's Children's Theater and were not going to pass up the chance to be in a movie. The size of the part did not matter to the girls, who were happy to be making their film debuts.
"Even if you are just an extra, it's cool to experience everything," Tori said. The production company was very good at getting the kids involved, including making sure all of their faces were clearly shot. During a break, Mick Cribbin, the director of photography, let the teens ask the actors questions about their craft.
IHTP is a locally run production company and "I Hate Tom Petty" its first film. The producers wished to remain anonymous, but they wanted to make clear that despite the title, the film is actually a "a love letter" to Petty, the singer/songwriter of such hits as "Running Down a Dream" and "Free Falling."
