YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- Yorktown Supervisor Susan Siegel vowed to launch an aggressive campaign while running on both the Yorktown Better Government and the Conservative party line Thursday, versus former town attorney and Republican candidate Michael Grace, and former town supervisor and Democrat Don Peters.
Im a very aggressive candidate, and I will be running on the two lines, Siegel said Thursday. There are very distinct differences between the three candidates running, and Im the only candidate who has a track record of getting the job done.
Siegel said she has not only saved the town money, but has made the town money in the sum of $1.6 million. She listed other successes of her time as supervisor as beginning work on the senior center, collecting back taxes and launching of the first emergency notification system. Its certain choices she made, among them, the elimination of Eric DiBartolos position as director of labor operations, that left people "angry with her, Siegel said.
The people who came out for the Republican primary were the people who were opposed to me. Typically thats what happens in primaries, the angry people come out, Siegel said. I took stands, I stood up to special interest groups and I was willing to take on the entrenched status quoI made enemies for what I did for the good of the town.
In the days after the election, in which Siegel vowed to remain in the election on the Yorktown Better Government line, Peters said those very examples Siegel was using to show what she had done had all been initiated during his administration. Siegel said Peters was a very nice man but he was ineffective as a supervisor.
Everything that shes taking claim for I initiated and started, Peters said. I feel that her own party didnt pick her in the primary so shes getting desperate, and that causes desperate people to do desperate thingsand in this case, thats caused her to get negative.
Grace disagreed with Siegel's claims that the primary was only comprised of "anti-Susan people. He said people went out to vote for him because they stand with him on the issues.
If its just people voting anti-Susan, I think she has a lot to be worried about, and she should consider dropping out. This has been a referendum on the way she governs and her legislative agenda. We presented an agenda on issues, issues that people care and are concerned about, Grace said. I think there was a clear distinction between my positions on the issues and her stance on the issues, and I think I resonated with the electorate.
