Three teens are now facing charges after police say a 15-year-old Northwest High School student pulled a handgun on another student and demanded money during an armed robbery on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Montgomery County Police were called to the Germantown school at approximately 12:35 p.m., initially prompting a search for the armed student and a Secure status that kept students and staff inside.
Police now say the incident began when a 15-year-old student was approached by another 15-year-old inside a school bathroom.
The teen allegedly pointed a handgun at the student and demanded money.
The victim handed over cash, and both left the bathroom before the robbery was reported, investigators said.
Officers searching for the suspect later spotted four teens near Great Seneca Highway and Wisteria Drive, including one who matched his description.
When the 15-year-old saw police, investigators say he separated from the group before officers stopped him and took him into custody.
But there was one problem: he didn't have the gun.
With the weapon still unaccounted for, officers turned their attention to the three teens who had been with him. As police approached, one walked into a wooded area before returning to the group.
A K9 was brought in to search the woods.
There, police say officers found a loaded P80 handgun with an extended magazine that detectives later determined was the same weapon used during the robbery at Northwest.
The investigation led to two more arrests.
Police identified 17-year-old Khalil Ingram as the teen who walked into the wooded area where the gun was recovered. Investigators also determined that 18-year-old Tayvion Williams had been in possession of the weapon.
The fourth teen was interviewed and released without charges.
The 15-year-old, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged as a juvenile with:
- Armed robbery;
- First-degree assault;
- Use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime;
- Handgun on person;
- Possession of a regulated firearm by a person under the age of 21; and
- Possession of a firearm without a serial number.
He was remanded to the Cheltenham Youth Detention Center.
Ingram was charged as an adult with handgun on person, possession of a regulated firearm by a person under the age of 21, and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
Williams was charged as an adult with possession of a regulated firearm by a person under the age of 21 and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
Both were being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit pending bond hearings.
