Child Killed, Three Others Injured In Oakland Pedestrian Crash: Prosecutor

A child was killed and three others, including two more children and an adult, were injured after being struck by a vehicle in Oakland Thursday, July 24, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 3:43 p.m. at the intersection of East Oak Street and Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202), according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Deputy Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer.

Police, fire crews, and EMS responded to the scene, along with medevac helicopters, and rendered aid to the four pedestrians, Angermeyer said. Authorities said one child suffered fatal injuries. The other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, including serious injuries, according to Angermeyer.

The identities of the victims were not released Thursday evening.

Investigators said the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with detectives. No charges were announced.

A joint investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force, and the Oakland Police Department.
