Three Monroe Hoops Stars Commit to NCAA Schools

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Three Monroe College women’s basketball players have committed to continue their playing careers at NCAA universities in Virginia.

Aivah Parham and Kashay Barnes will team up at Norfolk State University, while Verdine Warner will play at Hampton University. The three ladies led the Mustangs to their second consecutive NJCAA Division II National Women's Basketball Championship earlier this year.

"This is the ultimate benefit of all the hard work they put into their careers at Monroe," said Monroe coach James Robinson Jr. "Obviously at Monroe they had the opportunity to travel, play for a winning team and feel the incredible sensation of being a national champion.  Now they also get to play ball at the next level and keep themselves on track for bright futures on and off the court.  I have no doubt each of them will succeed in building on the winning ways they learned at Monroe."

Parham was a first team All-American who averaged 15.4 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game in her sophomore year.  The Baltimore native was the Region XV MVP and made the NJCAA National Tournament All-Tournament Team. She averaged 5.8 ppg and 5.4 rpg in her freshman year.

The native of Frederick, Maryland native scored 26 points and eight assists in the national championship game against Lake Michigan College. She played for Potomac State College her freshman year and averaged 13.6 ppg, 2.6 apg, 2.0 rpg and 1.8 spg.
