A GoFundMe recently shared with Daily Voice said Burton is survived by his wife, Jasmine, and their two children. Family friend Richard Martin organized the fundraiser with Jasmine Burton’s blessing to help cover memorial expenses and provide immediate financial support for the family.

“Terell was more than a friend to many of us, he was family,” Martin wrote. “We grew up together, and he was a steady presence: funny, loyal, and always showing up for the people he cared about.”

Burton, 41, died after falling between a Broad Street Line train and the platform at the station in the 4200 block of North Broad Street around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, Philadelphia police said.

He had exited the train as it arrived at the station, investigators said. When the train began moving southbound, Burton stepped backward into the space between the train and the platform. He was struck and run over by the train, authorities said.

Philadelphia Fire Department crews pronounced him dead at the scene around 2:03 a.m.

The fundraiser has raised $3,695 toward a $10,000 goal.
