Construction on the slightly less than one-acre parcel onTenafly Road began in June 2014.

"There is a demand for this kind of housing," Mayor Peter Rustin said. "Many in the community are underserved."
Bergen County United Way has partnered with Madeline Corp. to establish more than 200 similar independent living facilities in the area that are accessible for people using walkers and wheelchairs.
Seven other projects are currently under construction, and the list of applicants is growing.
"We went through an applicant pool from a number of state agencies, completed interviews and then we reviewed the information for eligibility requirements," Toronto said. "The next important step is making those roommate connections."
Nine of ten of those accepted will be from Bergen County.
Funding for the project came from a Tenafly trust, the New Jersey Mortage Finance Agency and the Bergen County Division of Community Development, among others.
