Teary Goodbyes Mark Administrator's Last Day

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – After six years of dedication to the district, Kusum Sinha will have her last day in Croton Schools on Friday.

The assistant superintendent of Croton-Harmon Schools leaves with emotions high.

“It’s hard,” she said, during a flurry of handshakes, hugs and personal goodbyes.

Though she smiled through her going away party with the district faculty, she said she had mixed feelings. The Ramapo Central School District, where Sinha will also be an assistant superintendent, is much larger, with about 4,700 students. Ramapo will be a short 15 minute commute from Sinha's home.

“We’re going to be in a search process,” said Karen Zevin, board of education president.

Zevin said Sinha’s “dedication, her follow through, her ability to work with children and staff is honorable.”

Croton-Harmon High School nurse, Phyllis Cobb, said it was “incredibly sad,” to see Sinha leave the district. She added that Sinha is “a wonderful advocate for school nurses.”

School board members remarked that Sinha would often stay until the early hours of the morning to work and then drive an hour home. As many said goodbye, their eyes were misty and Zevin said it would take several months to find a candidate as well-suited for the position as Sinha.
