The Darien Bantam 4 Wave football team opened the season away and fought bravely but ultimately lost, 7-0, to Ridgefield.
The Darien Blue Wave offense was powered by Peter Fox, Grayden Overbeck and Louis Messina with tough blocking. In moving the ball into Ridgefield territory, Jackson Leone, on a sweep left, turned the corner for a 15-year gain. Running back Ryan Mulliken ran inside and out for key Darien yardage.
With only three subs, the Darien defense pounded Ridgefield all game. Tackle Christian Nawrocki shot through the line to make a deep behind-the-line sack while Tad Daly and Eric Morgan defined the Darien defensive line with crisp tackling.
Grant Doherty and George Hult teamed up to stop several Ridgefield charges, with Peter Marsh and Jack Archie combining height and strength to help Darien.
On the final play in the first half, Ridgefield executed a perfect pass play for the game's only touchdown aided by an extra point.
