TARRYTOWN, N.Y. Multi-million dollar renovations on the Tarrytown Train Station are scheduled to be completed in July, but residents are already seeing signs of dwindling construction.
The station is nearing what they call substantial completion, Aaron Donovan said. Donovan is a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, which oversees the Metro-North Railroad.
A $39 million grant from the federal government facilitated the station's renovations as part of the Hudson Line Stations Improvement Project. The project included rebuilding a center island and side platforms, as well as the addition of enclosed and heated overpasses. Two elevators have been replaced and a third added.
In addition, the MTA added canopies, winter shelters, a new public address system, visual information system and pigeon proofing.
Donovan said most of work is scheduled to be completed by June, with final touches including working on the windows and installing art.
Those are some of the last things to be finalized, Donovan said.
Readers said they were glad the project was finally nearing completion on The Daily Tarrytown's Facebook page and added a few suggestions of their own for the MTA and Tarrytown.
Sherri Golden Heller said she wished the doors on the pedestrian overpasses could be propped open. David Raguso said it looked like the construction project was practically done.
I wish the village would fix the parking lot, David Raguso wrote. The lines haven't been painted in ages, and you can hardly seem them and water collects in huge lakes.
