Tarrytown officials have put up a “trailway closed” sign at the entrance to the main trail behind the Wilson Park neighborhood as work gets underway. The trailway will be closed for three months, Village Administrator Michael Blau said.
A request to open the trail on the weekends was brought up during Monday's Board of Trustees meeting and was quickly dismissed because crews will be working on Saturday. Opening the trail during the improvement process would also mean contractors would have to take time and effort to move equipment on and off the site, officials said.
Tarrytown is using $200,000 in grants and village funds to finance the project. Plans include clearing the main trail and a secondary trail. Plans also call for replacing a former railroad bridge, which takes up a major part of the project's costs.
The Tarrytown Lakes Committee hopes to connect the EF School to Sleepy Hollow High School and the Old Croton Aqueduct.
