Symphony Offers Upbeat Holiday Show

NORWALK, Conn. – Familiar popular songs, holiday favorites and a Christmas sing-along are on the schedule for Saturday evening at the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra's Holiday Extravaganza Pops Concert. Organizers say a highlight will be a special performance by the Southern Connecticut Camerata, known for singing compositions using interwoven independent lines of melody by Flemish, Italian, English and French composers.

Other guest performances will come from Gilbert Kalish, piano; Jessica Lee, violin; Lance Suzuki, flute; Amelia Watkins, soprano; and Alexander Hurd, baritone. The program includes orchestral tunes such as Vivaldi's Winter from the Four Seasons; Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major, BWW 1050; and the Lucas Richman Hanukkah Medley, as well as the Christmas sing-along.

Patrons will enjoy a mini meet and greet with refreshments and holiday cheer before the concert and during intermission. Concergoers will also be able to see the recently installed Justin Gruelle WPA Mural exhibit donated to the city of Norwalk.

"This will truly be a spectacular holiday event that will continue to showcase the Norwalk Symphony as a dynamic local arts organization," Emil Albanese, president of the symphony and chairman of the Norwalk Arts Commission, said in a statement. "Everyone has been working non-stop to present an amazing evening of great performances and art."

The concert will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Norwalk City Hall Concert Hall, 125 East Ave. For more information go to the symphony's website or call the box office at 203-956-6771.
