SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy Wednesday would not discuss speculation that she was considering running for the state Assembly.
"I'm not commenting about anything publicly at this point," she said. "I'm waiting to see what's up with that seat. I haven't made any decision on that yet."
Murphy, who has been town supervisor since 1998, was nominated by the Republican Party in 2010 to run for the state Senate in the 40th District but was trounced in a primary by then Assembly member Greg Ball, who went on to defeat Democrat Michael Kaplowitz for the seat held for many years by Vincent Leibell.
Political newcomer Steve Katz replaced Ball in the Assembly in 2010 but this year has announced his intentions to challenge Ball in a GOP primary for the Senate.
Two other Republicans, Dario Gristina and Wolf Lawton, have already announced plans to run for Katz' Assembly seat.
