Summer Shoppers Keep Stores Busy in Katonah

With summer in full swing, it shouldn’t come as surprise that items like barbecue grills and sandals are flying off the shelves.

But there are a few other items that have caught people’s attention this summer as well.

Emily Raneri of Charles Department Store, located at 113 Katonah Avenue, said the Big Green Egg grill and pizza baking stones have been selling well. But the item that has really been flying off the shelves has been the Vapur ‘anti bottle,’ a flexible and durable plastic water container.

“The Vapur is selling like crazy,” Raneri said. “We sold out of our entire shipment in two weeks.”

Soda and ice pop makers have also been popular, according to Raneri.

One ice pop maker in particular, the Zoku, has really caught people’s attention, she said. The Zoku creates ice pops in 7 to 10 minutes. A kit is available that also show people how to make different designs, flavors or pops with natural ingredients.

“It’s something fun to do with the kids,” Raneri said.

Amy Via works at Kellogg’s and Lawrence Department Store, which is located on 26 Parkway in Katonah, said barbecuing equipment, bug repellent and other pest related products. She said the store’s clothing, some of which come insect repellent and sun protection built in, have also been popular.

She said a lot of people come from the Katonah Metro-North Station.

“They usually stop in to get away from the heat,” Via said. “But they usually end up buying something.”
