The protest began in downtown White Plains on Monday morning, Feb. 9, when around 200 to 300 students walked out of White Plains High School, White Plains City School District Superintendent Joseph Ricca told Daily Voice.

A smaller number of students then made their way into the city to the federal US District Court building on Quarropas Street, Ricca added.

White Plains Police are now monitoring the protest to "ensure pedestrian and traffic safety," authorities confirmed on Monday morning.

Those in the area are advised to use caution.

Ricca said similar demonstrations have occurred at the high school in past years when students have chosen to make their voices heard.

The demonstration will not have an effect on the remainder of the school's schedule on Monday, Ricca said.
