CORTLANDTWondering what to do on a stormy weekend? The Croton Police Department has advised residents not to leave home on Sunday unless it is absolutely necessary, as it is likely to be the worst day of the storm. Therefore, we offer this special, with and without power, edition of the weekend events calendar.
Name Your Own Constellations Obviously, you wont be able to see the stars during the storm. Buy a pack of glow-in-the-dark stars as part of your storm supplies, and ask your kids to arrange them on a wall. Then name the constellations together!
Candle Light Board Games Bring the board games out of the closet now (while the light is still working) and pick a couple favorites for Sunday afternoon and evening. Find out who the real Scrabble champion is, without the help of the computer dictionary!
Shadow Puppets Setup the flashlight on a big wall, get your favorite story book, and animate using your hands! Better yet, make some shadow puppets in the afternoon, and tell the story using those puppets that evening. With or without power, this can entertain the kids throughout the stormy afternoon.
Make a Pillow Fort The safest room in your house might be made out of couch cushions this weekend. Crawl in with the kids and a flashlight for a story and some popcorn.
Make a Movie Charge up the video camera and make a movie while the powers out. You might not be able to edit it until later, but putting together a set will occupy some hours.
Learn to Knit Have you been meaning to teach someone how to knit? Are you a knitter yourself? Here is the prime opportunity to sneak in a few rows while someone sits beside you starting off.
