Steve Piccoli was killed in the overnight blaze at 11 Starhaven Ave. on Saturday, April 4, Middletown Police confirmed.

As previously reported by Daily Voice, fire crews were dispatched at 12:51 a.m. and arrived within about one minute to find heavy fire conditions, prompting a second alarm.

During suppression efforts, firefighters located Piccoli inside the home. He was removed and given immediate medical care but later died from his injuries.

Three firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and two Middletown police officers were taken to Garnet Medical Center for smoke inhalation.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour, with crews remaining on scene until around 4 a.m. for overhaul and investigation.

Officials said the preliminary cause of the fire appears to be an overloaded power strip, though the investigation remains ongoing.

More information about Piccoli's life was not immediately available. Loved ones are invited to share a statement, funeral details, and/or photos by emailing [email protected].
