Steve Christian Jahn is accused of killing a woman identified in court records as MN on Saturday night, March 7 in the Berwyn area of Tredyffrin Township, according to a criminal complaint filed by Chester County detectives.

As previously reported by Daily Voice, Tredyffrin Township police were dispatched at approximately 10:47 p.m. to a report of a vehicle crash, where officers found a silver Acura in the roadway with the female driver slumped over the wheel and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, investigators wrote in the affidavit of probable cause. The victim was transported to Paoli Hospital for treatment but later died from her injuries, according to the complaint.

Witnesses who stopped to help told police they saw the vehicle stopped in the roadway before discovering the driver unconscious, according to the affidavit. One witness said they noticed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the vehicle window before attempting to help the victim out of the car, investigators wrote.

Earlier that night, officers had responded to a well-being check involving Jahn after a 911 caller reported he believed he was being followed by multiple people, including undercover police officers, according to detectives. Jahn also told authorities he had a loaded 9mm revolver in the center console of his vehicle, investigators wrote.

When officers located Jahn sitting inside his silver Chevrolet Silverado, he appeared frantic and claimed people were following him around, according to the affidavit. Police suggested he voluntarily go to Paoli Hospital for a mental health evaluation, but Jahn refused and said he would only go if escorted by officers, investigators wrote.

Later that evening, police were called to a disturbance at a nearby home where a resident said a man matching Jahn’s description had been acting erratically in the driveway, according to detectives. The resident’s son reported hearing four gunshots shortly before seeing the man in the driveway removing his shirt and appearing angry, investigators wrote.

Investigators later used automated license plate reader cameras to track Jahn’s Silverado traveling through Tredyffrin, Easttown, and Radnor townships around the time of the shooting, according to the complaint. Data showed the vehicle moving along routes that detectives said were consistent with travel toward the area where the victim was found.

Dash camera footage recovered by investigators later showed Jahn driving with a firearm in his hand before gunshots were heard on the recording, detectives wrote.

A nearby Ring camera also captured a pickup truck traveling toward the shooting scene shortly before a gunshot was heard, according to the affidavit.

While being monitored in custody, Jahn made several statements that investigators described as erratic.

Among them, detectives wrote that Jahn asked, “is she dead, why am I in jail?” and said “that’s just great, so fucking cool man, I don’t understand, who is in the hallway?”

Jahn also told officers, “I pulled the trigger at the car, I definitely did that but I didn’t do anything else,” according to the affidavit.

Jahn is charged with criminal homicide, first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and possessing an instrument of crime, according to court records.

The charges are accusations and Jahn is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
