New York Medical College signed the academic partnership agreement with Stepinac on Wednesday, Aug. 19, according to the college.
The track is open to graduating students from Stepinac’s Susan and Daniel P. Mahoney ’67 Health Sciences Honor Academy.
Students who qualify will receive preferred admission to NYMC’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program after completing several requirements. They must earn a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, major in Health Sciences, Biology, Exercise Science, or a related science field, and meet all standard NYMC D.P.T. Program requirements.
The signing ceremony included Brian J. Nickerson, Ph.D., J.D., M.P.A., FACHE, dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice; D.P.T. faculty; Rev. Thomas Collins, president of Archbishop Stepinac High School; and dozens of Stepinac students and alumni.
Per NYMC, the partnership is meant to create a more direct route from high school to graduate-level physical therapy training while helping students stay focused on the education needed for health care careers.
“The demand for physical therapists is real and growing, and the students who fill that need often decide on this career path early,” Dr. Nickerson said.
Father Collins said the partnership expands Stepinac’s mission by giving students “meaningful exposure to the world of medicine and healthcare.”
