The Logan Township Police Department said Wednesday evening, Dec. 31, that Stephen Iannotti, 72, had been located and had died.
“It is with a heavy heart that we must advise that Mr Iannotti has been located, and tragically, he is deceased,” police said in an update issued at 6:30 p.m.
Out of respect for Iannotti’s privacy and the privacy of his family, police said this will be the only update released and that no further comments will be made.
Iannotti was reported missing on Dec. 28, when police conducted a welfare check at his home and found he was not inside, according to authorities.
Family members told police Iannotti was last heard from on the evening of Dec. 25, and his cellphone was found inside the residence, which police said was common practice for him to leave behind.
Police said Iannotti was entered into the National Crime Information Center database as a missing person, along with his vehicle, a black 1997 Jeep Wrangler.
Surveillance footage showed the Jeep leaving his driveway around 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, and automated license plate reader data later placed the vehicle at Center Square Road and Heron Drive in Logan Township minutes later, police said.
Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Response, Gloucester County LandSAR Unit, New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit, and surrounding municipal police departments.
