Crews were called just after 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, to the 1900 block of Hickory Point Road, after a BGE contractor working nearby spotted the home on fire and called 911, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived minutes later and found heavy flames coming from the front of the home’s first floor. Crews brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes and began searching the home.

Inside, they found one man dead near the area where investigators believe the fire started.

The victim was identified as Stephen Geisendaffer Sr., 62. He was the sole occupant of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Investigators say the home had working smoke detectors. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, pending a full investigation.

This is the third fatal fire in Anne Arundel County in 2025, officials noted. Two people died in a separate fire on Thursday, Feb. 20, which was ruled accidental.
