Shaban joined more than 50 third-graders and several teachers in the school cafeteria to answer questions about his role as a state representative in the General Assembly and about the role of government in general.
He was invited to speak to the students after their study of state government. The students formulated the questions and took turns speaking into a microphone to address the state legislator.
The questions from the students included what Shaban’s day-to-day duties include, what type of laws he has voted on, how one becomes a legislator, and what rights and responsibilities the students have as members of society.
"I was impressed by the students’ thoughtful questions and their understanding,” Shaban said in a statement. “This was fun, and I’m pleased I could share my experiences and answer their questions.”
