Stark Elementary School PTO President Stephanie O'Shea couldn't contain her excitement when she was presented with a "big check" for $500 as part of Main Street Connect's Better Schools Bonanza promotion.
"That's the easiest $500 we've ever picked up," O'Shea said.
The Stark PTO successfully registered 100 email addresses on MSC's Stamford site www.thedailystamford.com to earn the payout. MSC is the parent company of The Daily Stamford and nine other online community news sites in Fairfield County.
Stark Assistant Principal Catherine Macchio said, "Stephanie really pushed us along to get the registrations in to the paper."
When asked what the money would be used for, O'Shea was quick to answer. "Last year our cultural enrichment budget was cut, and this money will go toward adding some new programs in that area."
Presenting the check to O'Shea and Macchio were MSC's Director of Communications Thomas Cain and Community Marketing Director Gloria Tenofsky.
"Our goal is to be the community and neighborhood news source. Working with the schools in our towns is a major part of that goal," Cain said.
By qualifying for the $500 payment, Stark School is also in the running for the Better Schools Bonanza's bigger prizes of $5,000 or $10,000 for the school that generates the most votes in the promotion. The BSB promotion ends Nov. 15.
