The Staples boys soccer team is oh-so-close to its second straight Class LL state championship. The fifth-seeded Wreckers (17-2-1) take on sixth-ranked Farmington (15-2-3) at 1 p.m. today at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.
Staples will try to become the first team to repeat as Class LL champions since Naugatuck did it in 2001 and 2002. The team will also try to win back-to-back titles for the first time since 1981 and 1982. This is Staples' third appearance in the Class LL title game in five years. Staples defeated New Milford 4-0 to win last season's championship. The Wreckers are on a 20-game unbeaten streak that stretches back to the fourth game of the regular season.
