Despite the looming labor problem, the 2011 NFL Draft is set to kick off Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. It will be broadcast on ESPN starting at 8 p.m. Though several University of Connecticut players are ranked high on the prospect list, Fairfield County football fans will be hoping to see a Staples graduate's name called.
Andrew Kennedy, Staples Class of 2006, has been a stellar tight end in four seasons for Columbia University. Kennedy was named First Team All-Ivy League and as an All-American in the Football Championship Subdivision (Formerly Division-IA) this past season.
Despite his success, Kennedy is low on the draft board but has an outside shot at being taken on the second day of the draft. Some scouting websites predict he will get a shot to make a team as an undrafted free agent. If Kennedy were drafted, it would be the second year in a row that a high school graduate from Fairfield County was taken. The Jets selected Stamford High alum Vlad Ducasse in 2010.
